New Subforum?

Recommended Posts

I see that a lot of posts lately are related to non-Orbis space stuff. I think that we should have a subforum dedicated to space roleplay, since it doesn't really have much to do with Orbis, but it is still important for the nations involved in intergalactic roleplaying.

I agree.  Don't get me wrong, I really like the space roleplay but since my nation is more WW2 themed, it is quite literally in a different world(and I'm sure for others as well).  There also seems to be not too much overlap between Orbisian and intergalactic affairs and everyone is just in their own little world.  I think they should still stay connected but there should also be a more solid separation between the two so that the rp is more immersive and makes a bit more sense.

"We are born into this time and must bravely follow the path to the destined end. There is no other way. Our duty is to hold on to the lost position, without hope, without rescue, like that Roman soldier whose bones were found in front of a door in Pompeii, who, during the eruption of Vesuvius, died at his post because they forgot to relieve him. That is greatness. That is what it means to be a thoroughbred. The honorable end is the one thing that can not be taken from a man."  -Oswald Spengler

I agree a separation between Orbis and Galactic RP would be much more organized, so we don't have Space Fleets for a nation that is barely able to compete in conventional warfare.

If all of the nations here exist within the same canon timeline, I don't feel as if there's much of a reason to separate Orbis RP from RP elsewhere.

@Octavius - I'm not so sure it'll be possible for you to achieve the sort of authentic feel you're going for with a WWII themed nation the way things currently are - from what I understand, the nations on Orbis range from Modern Tech (MT) to Fantasy/Magic. That isn't to say that your chosen feel/tech level can't fit in (I'd argue that if you really wanted to become immersed in the world then it actually can be an interesting touch), but perhaps might require a bit more of an open mind.

*edit*

I do support the idea of a space map though. It would be nice to note people's claims and where they are in relation to Orbis. I will note, however, that space is very, very large. If people are claiming anything less than tens of thousands of star systems then it is very likely the claims won't even show up on a galaxy-scale map.

As for the space map, it would be hard for those with empires from other universes, so they could own territory in the galaxy, but not necessarily be from it.

Honestly, I feel like it really depends on the type of map and the amount of effort the map maker wants to get into - thinking on it now, I actually imagine that we could do a galactic map and claims that are rather small (like a few star systems, or I suppose anything not large enough to really be noticed on the galactic scale) could simply have "zoom" boxes on them, similar to minimaps, I suppose, superimposed on top of the primary galaxy map.

I like the idea of a space map,

seeing as most of us are in space or from outside of Orbis

The Question is how lol.

I am all for it, would be interesting.

I mean It would be interesting as france is becoming a space empire or expanding into space

Don't get me wrong a space map is cool and all but when you have an empire as mine I'm too far away to be put on a map that shows orbis. In perspective no orbisian nation ship has seen the far side of Caledonia with the exception of france whose ships were helped to be built by us. Not to sound OP because If I go to war with someone from orbis I will only use ingame numbers. Which is the only way I will war is with ingame numbers. It's only fair.

The problem I'm seeing is we aren't just going to create a subforum without an actual solid following for that type of "galactic" RP. Not to mention, this 'new' RP wouldn't be able to associate with the current National RP as you would be RPing from beyond the realm of your nations. I mean, even Nat RP gets a litttttle overboard sometimes. This would have to be a new brand of RP with some type of strong organization from within to make it actually work...it can't just be mashed together overnight.

What I'd need to see is some strong development and a good amount of you willing to take a position in the RP. Without that, there is no bounds to open a new forum and I believe Alex would agree with that as well.

A lot of the new NS players want a new sub forum, a space map can be added there (since many of them are space empires) or as Four said just use the regular NatRP and sticky the map as well.

I think a new sub forum is good but quite a bit of the space empires are the organic RPers as well and can be solved with one new subforum; if the others who don't want to use the organic subforum they can just create another map in the NatRp.

Honestly I am not even on the map and have no desire to be. I use NatRP to RP my in-game nation; but if a new subforum was created for organic RP, creating a new map for space empires (not in-game) could be really interesting!

Calondia is a tiny nation on Orbis, but I have NS empires that have billions of people, and I could create a system map. As suggested creating a galaxy map and then have zoom boxes to show sector maps could be really cool but would require some skill to make the map really nice.

Alternatively, sectors could be named, and the players make their own maps with links on the main map thread (space map).

I really like that idea actually, one thing that really annoyed me about Earth map is that once Japan is claimed there is little I can do about it besides ignore that player and just pretend that they don't exist; I mean it does work but with a galaxy map I don't see anybody getting too attached to "Sector XY2" of the Outer Arm, Milky Way Galaxy, Local Cluster. Since space is so massive most likely nations could be mixed up as well, providing for some interesting maps. (as in no way can a country defend a massive part of the galaxy, just not possible, there could be nations everywhere in-between)

How are maps like that made?

If I were to make a space map, I would overlay a hex grid on top of a galaxy map.

Any way we can see an example? I'm just interested in it.

We also have some very talented graphics players that could possibly help us out.

Please, make this a thing. We need this. (also, I already have a way to work this into my rp, and if possible, could you make it a .png file for ease of editing?)

I can upload a blank .png for you later today when I'm home (sometime after 5/6 CST).

And sure, if we actually have people who want to be on such a map I'll gladly cobble together something for all of our claims.

*edit*

Did not see anything in the forum rules about download links, so .png is here:

.png does not like layers, at least with Paint.NET. I can upload a .pnd with layers if you'd like that as well, but this is what I have for now.
