Anyone that wants to cry about the election go someplace else Donald Trump is going to be your next president if you live in the United States of America the greatest country this world has ever witnessed. He says he is going to make america great again and by god I actually believe the man ( Dont get butthurt atheists ) but our country isnt at its peak which is 2 times if not 3 times larger than it should be. Our military could be alot larger (It doesnt need to be but its a thought) technology wise. Our economy needs to improve. These are just thoughts and opinions of course because either way whichever candidate you chose one is going to be our next president and the other is going to prison (I hope). Cough Cough Benghazi.

Hate to break it to you but the US never was great. It was just some lie told to gullible people 50 years ago which is perpetuated today in order to get gullible people to vote for anything deemed as being "great".

By all means though, please reveal the specific time when the US was "great".

It has always been but sure we arent at our highest peak of strength we could be alot better but keep in mind that this doesnt disprove us being great. Some examples have already been presented but sure we have problems although every country does keep in mind we are the most developed country in the world we have technology that can surpass china and russia by nearly 60 years. We also have anti nuke technology. We have a military that can take on russia and china, and they have some of the strongest militaries of course theres are nothing compared to ours. But dont get me wrong we have a decent amount of rights not the most but alot economically and socially. We arent 100% perfect. But yeah we are !@#$ing great and there's nothing wrong with being a die hard patriot just like the brits said For god and country. You dont have to believe in god but you should believe in the people in your country. Now tell me what country are you from? Edited by Crispy General

Get out.

"Your cattle will die, your friends will die, you will die. But your reputation, if it is good, will never die."  -excerpt from the Havamal

"We are born into this time and must bravely follow the path to the destined end. There is no other way. Our duty is to hold on to the lost position, without hope, without rescue, like that Roman soldier whose bones were found in front of a door in Pompeii, who, during the eruption of Vesuvius, died at his post because they forgot to relieve him. That is greatness. That is what it means to be a thoroughbred. The honorable end is the one thing that can not be taken from a man."  -Oswald Spengler

You guys are all wrong. The one, greatest American achievement that forever places the great 50 states into the pages of history is the steady culmination of years of technology which resulted in the heavenly streaming network known as Netflix. !@#$ y'all, America is great and will forever be great. You can all go suck my Gilmore Girls reboot.

It's a useful mental exercise. Through the years, many thinkers have been fascinated by it. But I don't enjoy playing. It was a game that was born during a brutal age when life counted for little. Everyone believed that some people were worth more than others. Kings. Pawns. I don't think that anyone is worth more than anyone else. Chess is just a game. Real people are not pieces. You can't assign more value to some of them and not others. Not to me. Not to anyone. People are not a thing that you can sacrifice. The lesson is, if anyone who looks on to the world as if it was a game of chess, deserves to lose.

Airship and hot air balloon =/= Airplane

The former both use some sort of lighter than air system to increase altitude, while airplanes are heavier than air. There's a huge difference between the two. Density was more or less known since Vitruvius' times.

By that logic, we should've beat the Soviets into space and into orbit.

I hope you know that countries take ideas from other countries all the time. But if they do it and become a huge nation for it and make something more out of it that makes them worthy or even great.

Even though you barely can bring up actual facts the ones you bring up can easily contradict your point. Ever heard of culture diffusion? We took alot from the Europeans but in return they took alot from us. Without our protection or support in ww2, Vietnam and the modern day they would have a tough time getting by. I hope you realize that too many countries rely on us but are so ungrateful for it.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/10013197/America-our-great-protector-is-looking-the-other-way.html

Either way we had french help but it wasnt as much as you may think we had to use guerrilla tactics to win which was quite smart. Plus Britain cared about us more than you think to come for us again. But as an actual amount they spent 100 million fighting us so it doesnt sound like they wouldnt care.

We are the only true super power of the world currently thus making us a viable nation for greatness. We send foreign aid because its better than sending more troops than we already are and we also make 3 times more food than we need. Of course your responses are incredibly ridiculous but I cant help but argue with your stupidity. Its a shame I cant fix that.

Netflix is great.

Dumont did have a plane prototype that is proven to work, he just died before he could fly it.

Well, the Soviets stole a lot of German tech too. By the end of the war, everyone realized that Germany had better technology, so everyone was trying to get a hold of any Nazi scientists. We just hit the jackpot by pulling Wernher von Braun.

Yeah, fair. I can't argue with that, I use the internet all the time for homework and stuff. God knows I hate going to the library and actually pulling the book off the shelf.

Yeah, but that's so we can keep nations out of Soviet influence. Do we still do that today? Providing nuclear energy to developing countries, now that the Soviet threat is gone.

Hahahaha, so there is a limit even for you huh?

The internet bubble did help American companies corner the market though, some economists argue. But yes, I do have to admit that the US was definitely the most innovative during the 90s and developed the most internet infrastructure compared to the rest of the world.

Ooooo! Snarky little shit! I forget you internet trolls hide in these areas.

You can't call dollar diplomacy completely altruistic. Not that I'm saying without the US the world would be a better place (far from it), but the belief that somehow we dumped a crap ton of money into a country and their economy and not have any strings attached is simply not a fact.

England, during the Revolutionary War, was involved in the Anglo-Hispanic war and at the critical siege of Yorktown, failed to resupply the troops stationed there because the British wanted to capture the strategic objective of Gibraltar. After being embroiled in the war for almost 8 years, the British decided it wasn't worth another 100,000 troops and six more years. In contrast, the war of 1812 was a war where there was a strategic objective (Washington DC), and all you had to do was burn it all down and name a figure. The US didn't topple Britain, Britain just left and when we bugged them again, they squashed us with the world's strongest professional military.

The correct term is dollar diplomacy. Nothing new in American history, it's been going on since Taft.

Also, there is a great scene in The Rock, where Ed Harris quote Thomas Jefferson saying "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots," to which Sean Connery retorts "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious" from Oscar Wilde.

The only thing youve gotten at so far is using the revolution and war of 1812 as examples. I really hope you know britain was overspending on the war and had to pull out. But I guess considering 100 million in pounds wasnt that much back then? Yeah keep dreaming...

The war of 1812 I will admit you are right about most of it and dollar diplomacy. The only problem with that is that it was actually a draw even though britain had support from the canadian people and spain whereas the US had only a tribe of indians too support them. Thats pretty much it out of all youve said is actually correct.

I'm not arguing that we didn't win the revolutionary war. I'm just refuting the simply wrong statement that the US "overthrew the most powerful empire of the time." Did Britain lose the war? Yes. Did the entire British empire collapse and a new order installed by the US occur? I would argue no.

The War of 1812 was lost because of a Jeffersonian pipe dream of untrained small-r republican militates would be able to match against a more technologically advanced, well-trained, well-supplied experienced professional military from the Old World. Jefferson forgot that Roman militia system worked because the Roman Republic fought wars on a seasonal basis and cranked out a 90% veteran army at any given time. The Battle of New Orleans was won because of an actually competent American general and a completely incompetent British general.

A quick search on Google showed he died in 1932. That's way after the Kitty Hawk flew.

Yeah, but we did land on the moon.

We stopped after India used the research reactor we gave them to research how to build a bomb. It was to keep out commie influence, but we stopped it mainly due to proliferation concerns. (Source. Pg. 105. This book is very interesting to read, but it gets repetitive. Basically it is "We were broke and the West was opposing proliferation, so we got did this to get around it. The guy who came up with it was likely assassinated by Mossad later." repeated over and over.)

Nah, just being thorough.

Yeah, I haven't watched TV in so long. I canceled my TV subscription because of Netflix (and Steam).

Technically speaking the war of 1812 was a draw because we accomplished one of the two goals.

I do regret there were not good third party people to vote for this time.  Evan McMullin actually seemed like the best of the lot, and I usually vote liberal.  Gary Johnson and Jill Stein were both intellectual lightweights who were as unqualified as Trump.
